Turning Red  is a 2022 film released by Disney that centers around a thirteen-year-old girl that is torn between staying her mother's dutiful daughter and the changes of adolescence. To make things worse, whenever she gets overly excited she transforms into a giant red panda. It explores the theme of generational trauma, as well as celebrating Chinese culture, teenage girlhood, and boy bands of the early 2000s. The film blends poignancy with camp in order to convey the trials and tribulations of what it means to love yourself and grow up.
